We're launching two new apps - come and join the party!

Join us to celebrate the launch of two exciting new apps that reveal the fascinating hidden stories of Leicester's Cultural Quarter.

Hidden Stories and Sounds of the Cultural Quarter use the latest locative technology to deliver an immersive experience for visitors to the Cultural Quarter. Location-specific content - sounds from past and present, poetry, plays and narrative - is revealed as visitors explore the area, helping us to re-imagine urban history.

Poet and playwright Carol Leeming will give a live performance at 7.15pm of her choreopoem Love the life you live ... live the life you love, one of eight creative writing commissions for Affective Digital Histories. She performed this to a sell-out crowd at Embrace Arts on 2 October so it's not to be missed.

We also invite guests to experiment with traditional print processes and cutting edge technology to create their own original art work which will then feature in the New Incunable Print Shop exhibition, the culmination of the Affective Digital Histories print project.

There'll be music and refreshments, plus an opportunity for guests to record their memories of the Cultural Quarter in the Affective Digital Histories video booth.

The launch event is from 6.30-9.00pm on Thursday 27 November at Lightbox Studios, LCB Depot, Rutland Street, Leicester.

Please note the event is immediately preceded by the press launch, starting at 5.45pm.

Your Quarter, Your Culture, Your Story

We invite you to step into our video booth and share your stories and memories of Leicester's Cultural Quarter.

Tell us what you used to do in the Cultural Quarter, where you went and who with. Or tell us how you spend your time in the area now. Whatever your story, we want to hear it.

Recording your story is easy – just follow the simple instructions inside the booth. Your video will then be uploaded to the Affective Digital Histories archive and you, and everyone else will be able to access it online.

The video booth will be located in the foyer at Phoenix (Midland Street, Leicester) from 20th October, before it moves onto other Cultural Quarter venues.

Your Quarters, Your Culture Telling the Cultural Quarter’s affective stories

Posted: Wed, 28 May 2014 19:08

The personal stories that we share routinely through social media often reveal how we think about, feel and use the spaces where they happen. Pieced together, these affective stories can add an important social layer to the history of the places we occupy.

As part of the Affective Digital Histories project Phoenix and the University of Leicester will team up with Cultural Quarter residents to explore:

What does it feel like to live in the Cultural Quarter today?

What kinds of affective stories would we have liked to hear from past, and tell future residents?

How do we want to tell our affective stories about the Cultural Quarter?
